About the FOODITY Project
FOODITY— FOod and nutritiOn Data-driven innovation respectful of citizen’s Data SovereIgnTY — is an ambitious impact-driven project funded by the European Commission as part of the Horizon Europe programme. Over 3 years (2023 – 2026), the FOODITY team will work to revolutionise European food and nutrition systems. The project, that follows a cascade funding scheme (take a look at our publication about How Cascade Funding Works and discover all the benefits for your organisation), will run 2 Open calls to boost innovation in food and nutrition while putting the power of personal data use back into the hands of citizens — enabling them to create healthier and more sustainable food systems.
This ambitious 36-months project brings together seven multidisciplinary partners from different EU members who have joined forces to make it reality. From top-level experts in ICT-based solutions for the food and nutrition sector (Centre for Research & Technology Hellas), technologies for user’s control of personal data (JIBE Company ) and integration of data commons into federated infrastructure (SOFTEAM ), to experienced professionals in engaging citizens (F6S Network , AUSTRALO and Sploro) and social innovation (ZSI).
FOODITY 1st Open Call Details
Through its Open Call #1, FOODITY will support six disruptive digital solutions for food and nutrition. These will allow citizens complete control over their personal data, empowering them to make better — more environmentally friendly and healthier — dietary choices, thus contributing to better food systems and climate change mitigation.
The selected pilot project proposals will provide novel solutions to existing research and technical challenges to achieve the Food 2030 (the EU’s research and innovation policy to build better food systems by 2030) key priorities: Food systems supporting a healthy planet, Nutrition for sustainable and healthy diets, Circularity and resource efficiency, and Innovation and empowering communities.
The Open Call will focus on three key areas (Personalised food and nutrition, sustainable food systems, shopping experiences) , and one open challenge.
WHO CAN APPLY?
FOODITY is looking for organisations with both technical and social innovation expertise as well as citizen engagement knowledge to develop pilot projects.
Small or Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) and startups
Social innovation actors (SIAs)
Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) and universities
Training organisations
The FOODITY Open Call beneficiaries — FOODITY innovators — will access a wide range of added-value services, from financial support (up to 187.500€ per beneficiary) to expert mentoring and training, group coaching and technical support to use the infrastructure and core components of the programme.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION & PROPOSALS REQUIREMENTS
Proposals must be submitted via the F6S Platform. Proposals coming from other channels, won’t be considered.
Pilots must develop a solution that addresses a minimum one of the following areas: (1) food and nutrition personalisation, (2) sustainable food systems, or (3) shopping experiences, all within the domains of nutrition and food systems.
FOODITY will fund multidisciplinary consortia of 2-3 entities that include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, research and technology organisations (RTOs) and universities, social innovation actors and training organisations.
English is the official language for the FOODITY open calls. Submissions done in any language other than English will not be eligible or evaluated.
FUNDING & PAYMENTS
Beneficiaries may receive up to €180,000 and qualify for the FOODITY Star Award (€7,500) as seen in the Guidelines for Applicants. The funding is broken into two phases: the first grants €150,000 and the second €30,000. Only three of the six pilots will proceed to the second phase. The funds are disbursed based on quality of results and all pilots will be evaluated against KPIs by external experts. Pilots are required to fully complete their KPIs to receive complete funding.
